The Key to Capturing Genuine Wedding Day Moments
Your wedding day is going to go by FAST. You know this, of course, but it’ll still surprise you just how fast it all goes once you’re living it. While it’s really important to think of your guests and the experience you’re creating for them, it’s just as important to think of yourselves by creating a day that will allow you to truly soak in each moment that presents itself.
Timeline plays a BIG role in this (which is why it’s so important for me to consult on this with you and your planner). Giving yourself extra time leaves room for you to breathe — and if you’re feeling relaxed and unrushed, you’re also able to be your best self as these moments come along. Time is one of the biggest factors in getting incredible wedding day photos; the ones that bring you back in time and make you feel those feelings all over again.
I’ve compiled a list of my favorite wedding day moments! These are the ones I most love seeing my couples experience on their wedding day.
Wedding Day Preparation
Excitement is in the air! I love these moments because of all the anticipation. You’re with your favorite people, all of the hard planning work is done, and you’re enjoying the start of your day. From popping that bubbly with your bridesmaids to getting in the dress and mom adjusting your veil — these are some of the final moments before the day really starts to unfold.
Parent Reveals
Once you’re dressed and ready for the day, there’s a rushing feeling of “wow, this is really happening.” Suddenly everything starts to feel very real. Before you’re officially off to go see each other, it can be special to capture a reveal with a parent that is really special to you. Brides, if you have a soft spot for your dad, know that he’ll love a quiet moment with you before all of the action begins. Grooms, I know this part of the day can feel more “bride focused” but that doesn’t mean you can’t have a special moment of your own. Invite your mom in to see you off, and maybe even help to put on your boutonniere. Feel free to think outside the box with this one; if you have a grandmother that means the world to you, consider inviting her along too.
On a day that goes by so quickly, this is an easy way to share a special moment with the people that mean the most to you.
The First Look
This is one of my favorite moments of the day. If you choose to do one, this officially starts the portion of your wedding day that you’ll share together. We’ll select a location that allows the two of you share a private moment together and give you all of the time you need to take these moments in. My favorite part of a first look is that you can feel the rush of excitement and any nerves fall away the instant you see each other. You’ve worked together to create this day for months (sometimes years!) and finally, it’s here!
Big and Little Ceremony Moments
The ceremony is filled with so many great moments! From walking down the aisle and saying “I Do!”, to all of the small moments in between. The big moments are obvious, but the smaller ones really steal my heart. Locking eyes on each other, not always looking at the officiant; holding hands right from the start; and the biggest of smiles as you slip rings onto each other’s fingers. No matter how nervous you are to be up there in front of everyone, just focus on each other and sharing this time together.
Just Married Bliss
Starting with that walk back down the aisle, the excitement is at an all-time high! The walk down the aisle is always a big highlight —take it slow and take it all in. Feel free to stop along the way for one more kiss with everyone you love cheering you from behind! Afterward, I’ll get all the loving hugs from family as they officially congratulate the two of you.
Golden Hour Portraits
In all of the excitement of the day, this is one of the best times of day to sneak a moment in, just the two of you! The hour before sunset gives the most amazing natural light, and all of those warm, glowy sunset looks. By this point in the day, you’ll be feeling very relaxed, which gives us incredibly natural photos of the two of you taking it all in.
Celebrating in Style
Last, but certainly not least . . . I love when you bring the party. If you know that you’re having an all-out celebration and that your friends + fam know how to celebrate in style, it may be worth investing in some extra reception coverage. These moments are pure FUN and take the standard “people danced and had fun” reception photos to the next level.
